Position Summary
Medovent Solutions is seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to join our team in a fully remote capacity. This role is responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes for acute inpatient encounters while ensuring compliance with all applicable coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and ethical coding standards.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and committed to maintaining coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance while collaborating effectively with clinical and operational teams.
Essential Responsibilities
* Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes for acute inpatient hospital encounters.
* Ensure appropriate selection of principal diagnosis, principal procedure, and all applicable secondary diagnoses and procedures.
* Apply official coding guidelines, Coding Clinic guidance, CMS regulations, and industry best practices to all coding assignments.
* Maintain established productivity and quality standards, including a minimum coding accuracy target of 95%.
* Review clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy, initiating physician queries when clarification is needed.
* Stay current on coding regulations, payer requirements, and changes impacting inpatient coding.
* Participate in compliance reviews and follow established coding workflows and processes.
* Collaborate professionally with physicians, nurses, clinical staff, and other healthcare team members to support accurate documentation and coding.
* Assist with mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of fellow coders as needed.
* Utilize sound judgment and independent decision-making while working in a remote environment.
* Attend required coding education sessions, webinars, conference calls, and departmental meetings.
* Maintain required continuing education credits and active coding credentials.
* Complete assigned compliance training within designated timeframes.
* Adhere to AHIMA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Ethical Coding while maintaining the confidentiality and security of protected health information.
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
* Active Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential.
* Strong working knowledge of:
* ICD-10-CM
* ICD-10-PCS
* MS-DRG assignment
* Official Coding Guidelines
* AHA Coding Clinic guidance
* Ability to accurately analyze complex inpatient medical records.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to coding quality.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing productivity expectations.
Preferred
* Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related healthcare field.
* Acute care inpatient coding experience.
* Experience meeting productivity and quality metrics in a remote coding environment.
* Experience with Meditech and/or MEDHOST electronic health record (EHR) systems is a plus.
Work Environment
* Fully remote position.
* Must have a dedicated workspace with reliable internet access.
* Ability to work independently while participating in virtual meetings, education sessions, and team collaboration.
