Position Overview
The Senior Educator, CDI & Coding leads Medovent Solutions’ clinical documentation integrity and coding education strategy for internal employees and external healthcare partners. This position oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of educational programs, Learning Management System content, candidate assessments, webinars, and training initiatives that support documentation quality, coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and professional development.
The Senior Educator serves as the operational lead for CDI and coding education projects, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across inpatient, outpatient, professional fee, and risk-adjustment service lines. This individual collaborates with consulting teams, Quality Assurance, Client Services, Marketing, recruiting, and organizational leadership. The position reports to the Vice President of Compliance and Education for Clinical Documentation Integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Oversight
- Provide operational leadership for the education team while ensuring adherence to organizational, account-specific, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate project updates, best practices, and strategic priorities.
- Represent the education team at the executive level and demonstrate the organizational impact of its work.
- Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive CDI and coding education programs.
- Ensure accurate, compliant, and high-quality education across inpatient, outpatient, risk-adjustment, and professional fee coding service lines.
- Serve as an organizational subject-matter expert for CDI and coding education.
- Mentor educators, consultants, and content developers.
- Participate in strategic planning for educational services and professional development offerings.
Education Strategy and Excellence
- Develop and execute an organization-wide CDI and coding education strategy aligned with business objectives and healthcare partner needs.
- Establish standardized educational protocols, methodologies, curricula, and competency frameworks.
- Design educational programs that address identified coding, documentation, and compliance knowledge gaps.
- Deliver coding education sessions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor industry trends, annual coding updates, regulatory changes, and CDI best practices.
- Communicate regulatory and industry updates clearly to employees and healthcare partners.
- Present audit findings and actionable recommendations while supporting effective resolution of documentation and coding challenges.
- Create CDI and coding newsletter content and collaborate with the Education Coordinator to finalize materials for distribution.
- Educate new auditors on audit-platform workflows and assist with educational project setup as needed.
External Engagement and Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with external healthcare partners.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for education-related services.
- Customize educational services to address specific organizational needs.
- Present audit outcomes and educational insights in a manner that supports organizational objectives and collaboration.
- Maintain clear, professional, and responsive communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Learning Management System Administration
- Serve as the primary owner and administrator of the organization’s Learning Management System.
- Oversee the development, organization, maintenance, and continuous improvement of CDI and coding content within the system.
- Develop structured learning pathways, assessments, certifications, and competency-tracking processes.
- Monitor learner engagement, completion rates, and educational outcomes using system reporting and analytics.
- Maintain version control and ensure educational materials remain current with annual coding and regulatory updates.
Candidate Competency Assessment
- Oversee the administration and maintenance of CDI and coding candidate competency assessments.
- Coordinate assessment distribution, collection, scoring, and evaluation.
- Grade manual assessment components using standardized scoring criteria.
- Document findings and provide detailed, objective feedback regarding candidate knowledge and critical-thinking skills.
- Maintain accurate assessment records, tracking logs, and reporting metrics to support hiring decisions.
- Develop and distribute individualized remediation guides and educational resources when additional support is needed.
- Communicate assessment results to recruiters and other authorized stakeholders.
- Collaborate with recruiting and operational leadership to align competency standards with organizational quality expectations and position requirements.
- Review and update assessments regularly to reflect current CDI, coding, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Analyze assessment trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
Webinar and Professional Education Program Management
- Develop and manage the annual internal and external webinar strategy and education calendar.
- Align educational programming with organizational priorities, industry trends, regulatory updates, and identified learning needs.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee webinar logistics to ensure timely execution and a high-quality learner experience.
- Identify and coordinate internal and external subject-matter experts and presenters.
- Review and approve webinar presentations, educational materials, and supporting resources for technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, instructional quality, and alignment with organizational standards.
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop webinar descriptions, learning objectives, speaker biographies, email campaigns, social media content, website copy, and conference materials.
- Establish standardized processes and quality controls for webinar development, presentation review, continuing education documentation, and post-event evaluation.
- Monitor attendance, learner engagement, participant feedback, and educational outcomes.
- Maintain a library of recorded webinars and educational resources within the Learning Management System.
- Develop original educational content and serve as a primary presenter for onboarding, continuing education, quality improvement, and remediation programs.
- Design and deliver external webinars on CDI, coding, revenue integrity, quality, compliance, and related healthcare topics.
- Represent Medovent Solutions as a professional speaker at national, regional, state, and local conferences, association meetings, healthcare events, and industry forums.
- Identify opportunities to expand the organization’s educational presence through speaking engagements, webinars, professional partnerships, and thought-leadership initiatives.
- Maintain an annual conference and speaking-engagement plan, including submission deadlines, presentation development, rehearsals, and post-event evaluations.
Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives
- Lead high-profile CDI and coding projects through timely and successful completion.
- Identify and implement strategies that improve operational scalability and efficiency.
- Collaborate across departments to address complex challenges and streamline processes.
- Develop innovative educational offerings that support growth, engagement, and Medovent Solutions’ reputation as a leader in CDI, coding, and healthcare education.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Advanced expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and evaluation and management leveling.
- Experience collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, CDI specialists, coding professionals, and interdisciplinary clinical teams.
- In-depth understanding of CMS requirements, accreditation standards, healthcare regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to lead teams and oversee multiple concurrent projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in project management, process improvement, and relationship management.
- Advanced data-analysis skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation abilities.
- Ability to travel nationwide up to 25% based on business needs.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strong knowledge of Clinical Documentation Integrity.
- Knowledge of MS-DRG, APR-DRG, HCC risk adjustment, and quality-reporting methodologies.
- Understanding of revenue cycle operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical documentation improvement strategies and physician documentation practices.
- Current, unrestricted clinical licensure as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Physician.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree or higher required; bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred.
- At least five years of leadership experience in coding, auditing, compliance, or a related healthcare field.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects, improving processes, and managing professional relationships.
