Position Overview
Medovent Solutions is seeking an experienced Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist for a 12-month contract supporting a Florida hospital. This is a 100% remote position that may be performed from anywhere within the United States.
The CDI Specialist will perform standard inpatient CDI functions, with an emphasis on following up on existing ICDI reviews. Reconciliation will take priority over new cases. The specialist will also review weekend stays across all service lines. Risk adjustment coding experience is strongly preferred.
Position Details
- Contract length: 12 months
- Work arrangement: 100% remote within the United States
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
- PTO: Any planned time off must be disclosed at the time of submission.
Key Responsibilities
- Review inpatient and, as applicable, outpatient medical records to ensure the documented clinical picture accurately represents the severity of illness, risk of mortality, and complexity of care.
- Prioritize follow-up CDI reviews and reconciliation activities over new cases.
- Review weekend stays across all service lines.
- Validate that coding accurately reflects medical necessity and the services provided.
- Confirm that discharge diagnoses and comorbidities completely and accurately reflect each patient’s clinical status and care.
- Apply advanced knowledge of disease processes, pathophysiology, and medications to identify gaps in clinical documentation.
- Identify opportunities within concurrent and retrospective inpatient documentation to support accurate coding, quality reporting, and compliant reimbursement.
- Facilitate appropriate documentation clarification and modification through collaboration with physicians, coding professionals, case management, nursing, and other caregivers.
- Serve as an educator and resource for physicians and allied health professionals to improve the quality and completeness of clinical documentation.
- Apply regulatory requirements related to documentation, coding, and billing across health insurance plans.
- Perform all responsibilities in accordance with ethical and legal business practices, federal and state regulations, official coding guidelines, accepted coding standards, and applicable clinical documentation policies.
Required Qualifications
- CCDS or CDIP credential required.
- One additional qualifying credential or degree is required: RHIT, RHIA, RN, CCS, CCS-P, or a medical degree.
- At least three years of experience in an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist role.
- Experience performing concurrent reviews of medical records in a CDI setting.
- Recent experience in a production-based role within the past 12 months.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and concepts to physicians, management, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a creative and challenging work environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when required to meet business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Risk adjustment coding experience.
