CDI Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Review clinical indicators and query requests from CDI and DRG integrity teams
  • Create and distribute compliant provider queries in accordance with AHIMA, ACDIS, ICD-10, and AHA Coding Clinic guidelines
  • Collaborate with clinical and coding teams to clarify documentation and avoid misinterpretation
  • Utilize medical terminology, coding knowledge, and critical thinking to support accurate code assignment and documentation specificity
  • Maintain strong attention to detail with professional grammar and written communication
  • Use internal tracking and reporting systems for documentation and productivity metrics
  • Meet established productivity and quality standards
  • Participate in ongoing education related to CDI, coding, and regulatory updates
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:
One of the following required:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Foreign Medical Graduate
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical healthcare experience
  • Minimum 2 years of current inpatient CDI experience

Credentials:
One or more of the following preferred:

  • RN, BSN, CCDS, CDIP, CCS, RHIA, MD, or DO

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical abilities
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines and compliant query practices
  • Proficient with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and manage multiple systems/screens in a remote environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain professional working relationships
  • This is a remote position requiring prolonged computer and phone use in a professional office setting. Minimal to no travel required.
