Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist

Opportunity Overview

Position Summary

Medovent Solutions is seeking an experienced Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist to support a large, independent regional health system that recently implemented Epic and is relaunching its inpatient CDI program.

The health system includes multiple hospitals, more than 400 affiliated physicians, and a flagship hospital that serves as the region’s only Level III Trauma Center. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse and clinically complex inpatient population while helping strengthen and advance the organization’s CDI program.

The Inpatient CDI Specialist will perform concurrent medical record reviews, identify documentation opportunities, and collaborate with physicians, coding professionals, and other members of the healthcare team to promote accurate, complete, and compliant clinical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct concurrent reviews of inpatient medical records to assess the accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to clarify diagnoses, procedures, clinical indicators, severity of illness, risk of mortality, and the resources used to provide care.
  • Initiate compliant physician queries when documentation is incomplete, unclear, conflicting, or clinically inconsistent.
  • Collaborate with physicians, coding professionals, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members to improve documentation quality.
  • Apply clinical expertise and established coding and documentation guidelines when reviewing complex inpatient cases.
  • Support the successful relaunch and continued development of the inpatient CDI program.
  • Use Epic and Solventum Encoder to complete reviews and support CDI workflows.
  • Meet established expectations for productivity, review quality, query compliance, and timely case completion.
  • Participate in team meetings, education, performance-improvement initiatives, and program-development activities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable regulatory, privacy, and organizational requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse license.
  • At least five years of inpatient clinical documentation integrity experience.
  • Strong knowledge of inpatient CDI practices, compliant query standards, and coding-related concepts.
  • Experience reviewing clinically complex inpatient cases.
  • Strong clinical judgment, analytical ability, attention to detail, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment during Central Time business hours.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, coding professionals, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Successful completion of an inpatient CDI proficiency assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience using Epic.
  • Experience using Solventum Encoder.
  • Experience supporting a CDI program implementation, relaunch, or optimization initiative.
  • Experience working within a multi-hospital health system or trauma-care environment.
