Position Overview

Medovent Solutions is seeking an RN Inpatient Concurrent Reviewer for a long-term Clinical Documentation Integrity assignment. This highly process-driven position requires sustained focus, dependable work habits, strong communication skills, and a genuine interest in developing a long-term working relationship.

The reviewer will identify clinically meaningful documentation opportunities that support DRG optimization, including CC and MCC capture, and risk adjustment. Reviews include secondary diagnoses and present-on-admission status, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct concurrent inpatient medical record reviews across service lines.
  • Identify impactful clinical documentation opportunities that support accurate DRG assignment, CC and MCC capture, and risk adjustment.
  • Review secondary diagnoses and present-on-admission status for documentation accuracy and completeness.
  • Draft compliant queries using approved query templates.
  • Submit and manage queries through Interact within Iodine.
  • Complete follow-up reviews and submit additional queries when appropriate.
  • Communicate directly and professionally with providers regarding documentation opportunities.
  • Participate in team meetings, educational sessions, audit discussions, and follow-up conversations.
  • Follow detailed review processes and established workflows.
  • Maintain consistent focus and productivity throughout the scheduled workday.
  • Ask questions proactively and remain receptive to coaching, feedback, and continued learning.

Performance and Quality Expectations

  • Monthly performance metrics are tracked and made available to reviewers for personal review.
  • Performance is evaluated using multiple measures rather than query rate alone.
  • Relative Weight improvement is monitored as an indicator of the clinical and financial impact of identified documentation opportunities.
  • The current query rate is approximately 48% following the implementation of Iodine and expanded querying practices.
  • Internal audits are completed quarterly.
  • Audits assess adherence to established processes and query-drafting compliance.
  • CDI leads provide feedback and education following audit reviews.
  • Continued assignment is based on performance, work quality, communication, and ongoing coverage needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license.
  • Strong clinical knowledge base.
  • Experience with inpatient concurrent reviews and provider queries.
  • Ability to work effectively within a detailed, highly structured CDI workflow.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort discussing documentation with providers.
  • Consistent work ethic, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to accept feedback and adapt to evolving processes.
  • Medical education without an RN license does not satisfy the licensure requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCS certification.
  • CCDS certification is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience with 3M 360, Epic, or Iodine.
  • Exposure to mortality reviews.
  • Experience reviewing Patient Safety Indicators and Hospital-Acquired Conditions.
  • Familiarity with risk-adjustment methodologies.

Technical Requirements

  • Wireless internet connections are not permitted.
  • Candidates must maintain a reliable remote-work environment that supports consistent, uninterrupted performance.

Paid Time Off Scheduling

Contract CDI professionals may request up to:

  • Three weeks of scheduled time away per March-to-March scheduling year.
  • Six individual days during the same scheduling year.

Requests must be submitted approximately six months in advance through the established scheduling process. A maximum of five CDI professionals may be approved for time off on the same day. Approval considers seniority while allowing each team member to submit first, second, and third scheduling preferences.

All time away from the assignment must follow the healthcare organization’s approval process, regardless of any separate Medovent Solutions PTO allowance.
